How Katherine Pivoted from Advertising to Recruiting with Confidence
Katherine spent nearly a decade building a career in advertising. She had the promotions and the stability. What she didn’t have was the sense that any of it fit her anymore.
“I changed companies, teams, even cities,” Katherine said. “But no matter what I adjusted, that feeling kept coming back. I knew I wasn’t in the right place anymore.”
Changing the external things hadn’t touched the actual problem. So she tried something different.
Getting Clear on What Was Actually Driving Her
After years as an Account Director, Katherine realized that swapping employers or cities wasn’t going to solve this. She needed to understand what actually motivated her, and she needed the confidence to act on it. That’s what brought her into the Career Clarity Accelerator.
She had reservations about the time and money it would take. But she also knew what staying still would cost her.
Through the coaching process, Katherine worked through her core values, motivators, and strengths, built a plan to explore options outside her industry, started networking beyond advertising, and practiced the harder conversations she’d need to have with her employer. The clarity came first. The sense of purpose followed.
Turning Down the Easy Option
Once Katherine had that self-awareness, her company offered her a promotion to stay. For the first time, she had the clarity to say no.
“It was tempting to stay,” she admitted. “But I knew I would end up in the same place, disconnected from my work and questioning my future.”
Instead, she pivoted into a new industry entirely: recruiting.
What Changed
The move wasn’t random. It came out of real research, conversations with people already in the field, and a clear read on which of her skills would transfer.
“Once I researched the industry and spoke to people with similar backgrounds, it became clear that recruiting aligned with my strengths and what motivates me,” she said.
Within her first month in the new role, she noticed the difference: renewed energy at work, a company culture that actually reflected her values, and real confidence in where this could go long-term.
The tools from the coaching process didn’t stop being useful once she landed the new role, either.
“My new manager asked about my work style and motivators. Because of the blueprint I created, I had those answers ready,” Katherine said. “I’ve referred back to those tools multiple times. They’ve given me clarity not just for this transition, but for my long-term career decisions.”
Her Advice
Katherine’s advice to anyone feeling disconnected, burned out, or unsure about their path: don’t wait it out.
“You will never regret investing in your own growth,” she said. “This process helps you reconnect with your strengths, gain clarity, and build the confidence to create meaningful change. The results speak for themselves.”
Katherine isn’t the only client who’s found clarity led to a bigger change than expected. Read Jessica’s story here to see how that same process played out for her.
